I did not check the website before now, but I was given photos of a TypeX at one time booted with no software drive, showing a blue screen and a mouse cursor, which is where I took my assumptions from.

It's no surprise that the developer would allow the internal system to be replaced upon boot if a HD version of Windows is available for bug fixes, updates required for compatibility, updated video card drivers etc., but I suppose we're both just guessing with the information that we have and will know better eventually. Being PC hardware there may come a game that can use the max setup.
I would disagree that you need money to burn, but you do need money to 'tie up'. Buying recent model X2 setups and kits would be more financially risky than, say, buying an Atomiswave at a good price in the current market. Smart buying and selling of arcade hardware is remarkably cheap. I hate waiting for the games to come out and when they do, I never know if they're going to play right when they do. They couldn't even port MVS games like the slugs to modern consoles properly. If you want to be playing them on a cab, it's actually much more enjoyable to have the real hardware. No matter how many ports of a game comes out, there are a lot of people who prefer the arcade version of a game, myself included. As far as shmups, it has Gigawing Generations, Raiden III and IV, and Shikigami no Shiro 3.
The board was $444 with a JVS I/O and was far more expensive than most of the games. I had a TypeX that I bought in the Japandeal, but it ended up not working upon shipment and I had to walk away.

I don't know how to get 15KHz out of it but maybe it is possible through a DIP or a de-interlacing I/O of some sort. JVS to JAMMA converters are readily available and the video output is 31KHz non-interlaced VGA like a Naomi.
The TypeX's I/O is almost identical to that of a Naomi or Triforce - JVS. The game is on a hard drive, and I do not know how easy is to copy, but I do know that the USB dongle is likely well protected. I do not know if the system is encrypted on whatever ROM it boots from, but I would guess so. You have no windows interface to access it. So, a large amount of the system is locked down, and cannot be modified. The Windows on TypeX's and TypeX2's are embedded, not on the hard drive. I also forgot if it is compatble with memory better then ddr2-1066 if it suports ddr3, the price could go even higher.

If thats the case, if someone can crack or disable bitlocker, it would just take a little mod the executables to get it to run on a standard pc. So yeah, I know, especially popular arcade software can get into that range, but the hardware it's self is still very pricey.Īs for the encrption, I bet anything it's just using BitLocker(the drive encryption and data control system in vista buisness and ultimate).
